Election Candidacy

Utah Constitution Article VI, Section 5 and 6

Utah Code 20A-0-201

U.S. Citizen
25 years old at the filing deadline time
3 consecutive year resident of Utah at the filing deadline time.
6 consecutive month resident of the senate or representative district from which elected at the filing deadline time.
Registered voter at time of election
No person holding any public office or profit or trust under authority of the United States, or of this state, shall be a member of the Legislature; provided, that appointments in the State Militia, and the offices of notary public, justice of the peace, United States commissioner, and postmaster of the fourth class, shall not, within the meaning of this section, be considered offices of profit or trust.
Unless unaffiliated, the candidate must be a member of a registered political party.

Must be certified as a peace officer prior to taking office the first Monday of January after the election.

An attorney licensed to practice law in Utah who is an active member in good standing of the Utah State Bar.
A registered voter in the county.
At least one year resident of the county immediately before the date of the election.
If there is no qualified attorney residing in the county, or a qualified attorney does not file, the county commission will fill the office by appointment.

U.S. Citizen at time of filing.
An attorney licensed to practice law in Utah who is an active member in good standing of the Utah State Bar.
A registered voter in a county or prosecution district in which he is seeking office.
A current resident of the prosecution district in which he is seeking office and has been a resident of that district for at least one year.

A registered voter in the county.
At least one year resident of the county immediately before the date of the election.
Any person elected exclusively as the county surveyor shall be a registered professional land surveyor in the state of Utah.
In a county where the office of county surveyor is consolidated with another elected office, the officeholder need not be a registered professional land surveyor, but all surveying work must be performed by a registered professional land surveyor.
